Feeding My (Decaf) Coffee Addiction, Part II

Yesterday, I told you all about my new-found love affair with New England Coffee (I still love my Tassimo, but the novelty there has worn off, since I’m not a big fan of their pod pricing and since, unlike Keurig, they don’t offer refillable pods). Today, I’ll be filling you in on New England’s counterpart at SheCon and my new favorite creamer – Bailey’s Non-Alcoholic Creamers (Creme Brulee and French Vanilla for me, please!).

Feeding My (Decaf) Coffee Addiction, Part 1

Last weeked I had the opportunity to tour the SheCon expo floor, demo some great products, and sample some truly awesome food and beverage items. As a semi-reformed coffee addict (no caffeine, please), I was pleased to be able to sample New England Coffee’s decaf variety (which I promptly picked up at the local Publix, after – sigh – giving the regular sample-sized bag to my husband to enjoy). For being an affordable (relative to Starbucks or any of the other premium varieties at the food store) variety of coffee, the depth of flavor and richness of what I believe was their breakfast blend was impressive.

Review: Cupcake Couture, Delray Beach

If you haven’t already heard, cupcakes are making a MAJOR comeback. And I’m not talking about your Duncan Hines box mix with tub frosting. Today’s cupcakes are miniature works of art – carefully crafted to look like elegant cakes, and served up in a myriad of flavors that makes Baskin Robbins seem to have a limited selection.

Garlic-Fest-2011-300x300

Garlic Fest 2011, Delray Beach

While Northerners are shoveling out and locking up indoors to avoid the cold, Floridians have plenty to look forward to in February – and one of my personal faves is the Delray Beach Garlic Fest. Slated for the weekend of February 11, the 2011 version features excellent  live music, a Gourmet Alley sponsored by Publix; a diverse offering of wines and a Garlic Chef competition…just to mention a few. This smelliest of outdoor festivals draws a crowd of locals and tourists every year, and brings some great entertainment, food, and goodies with it.

MIA_Ultra_Lounge_Venue

Review: M.I.A. Ultra Lounge, Miami

In Miami, there are primarily two destinations if you want to hit some serious nightlife action: South Beach and downtown Miami. While South Beach offers celeb-filled nightclubs and some of the most-talked about hotspots in the country, downtown Miami holds its own with an eclectic mix of clubs, lounges, and hot restaurants that are favorites among city locals who’d rather not fight the traffic and tourist crowd on SoBe.

MIA Ultra Lounge was designed with Miami’s diversity in mind – bold, dashing color and luxury elements throughout the venue with frosted glass bar tops, bold fixtures and perfect lighting for the ladies.

Cuban Sofrito

Since my husband was so in love with the sauce he tasted at Solera, I decided to share my abuela’s recipe for Cuban Sofrito, a slightly modified, definitely delicious version of the sauce he sampled at Solera:

Solera at La Concha, Condado, San Juan

Chic and sophisticated are the first two words that come to mind when walking into La Concha Resort in Condado, San Juan, where my friends, husband and I were stopping for some tapas before hitting the town and checking out San Juan’s nightlife. My friend, E, and I have very similar taste in restaurants/bars, so we knew immediately that Solera was going to be a great start to our evening. The tapas restaurant offered casual, yet chic, outdoor lounge-style seating with a great, funky setting, and a menu that was pricey but worth every penny.

Talking Absinthe – Getting To Know Lucid

In May 2007, Viridian Spirits LLC launched Lucid Absinthe Supérieure, the first genuine absinthe made with real Grande Wormwood to be legally available in the United States in 95 years.  The launch was the result of extensive negotiations between Viridian and the U.S. government paving the way for the ban on absinthe effectively to come to an end.  Viridian retained renowned absinthe historian and distiller, T.A. Breaux to develop Lucid in France.  Breaux had spent over a decade studying and perfecting his techniques after sampling and analyzing several unopened bottles of vintage absinthe.

My Tassimo Brew Station

So, by now, you’ve read how much I love my Tassimo beverage maker. When I first had the chance to review the system, I was sent samples of coffee and cappuccino to taste test. Since then, I’ve had the chance to try out several other varieties, after discovering that my local Target and JP Penney both carry beverage varieties. My husband and I are HOOKED. So hooked, in fact, that we’ve turned my baker’s rack into a Tassimo beverage station:
